W2 – Synopsis

“The Hate you Give” is a book based on police brutality. Starr is a girl that goes to a preppy white kid school even though she is black; which makes her feel out of place. One night coming home from a party, Starr is riding with her friend Khalil, who she grew up with all of her life, while driving they get pulled over by a cop. The officer tells them to stay still while he goes back to the car, but due to Khalil not having respect for the cop, he moves. Out of fear that he is going to pull a gun, the cop shoots him. This sparks rebellion through the black community, and Starr becomes the leader of it. I have noticed that this book has a good amount of liberal bias in it.

  1. This reminds me of racism because one race has no respect for another race in this Synopsis. It is also wrong that people make assumptions about people based on their race. Just because he THOUGHT he was going to pull a gun doesn’t give him the right to shoot him.

  2. This is a very realistic situation. In today’s world there are many deaths of African Americans because police officers think they are armed. People are starting to think that the police officers are stereotyping so this made people protest. The world isn’t perfect, it’s corrupt in my opinion. Life isn’t fair and it probably never will be.
